I spent many wonderful hours – and sleepless nights! – delighting in the adventures of the vampire, Le Comte de Saint-Germain, as chronicled by the incomparable Chelsea Quinn Yarbro.

So when I decided to write a contemporary paranormal with Gothic elements, I naturally turned to Le Comte and Yarbro for inspiration. I particularly loved her technique of telling a story-within-a-story by way of letters.

When I incorporated letters from the past into this contemporary story, what had started out as a series of random ideas all fell into place as if by magic.
